Belvoir Brewery Hot Air Balloon Takes Part in World Record Attempt
Early this morning Colin Brown (Owner and Head Brewer) took part in a world record attempt as 82 Hot Air Balloons flew across the English Channel aiming to beat the current world record of 49 Balloons which was set on this day in 2011.
Colin (seen here on the left shortly before he left for Dover yesterday) had been on standby for the last 5 weeks as everybody waited for the perfect conditions to fly over the channel. They finally got the green light yesterday resulting in him riving south yesterday afternoon before getting up in the very early hours this morning and inflating the balloon ready for the take off at sunrise.
It was an amazing scene as all the balloonists made it safely across the channel and the event was followed life on social media with spectacular photos and videos being posted live from the skies. The event was also followed by the BBC who’s very own Fiona Lamdin was in a balloon both sending reports and posting fantastic photos.
Despite all 82 balloonists making it to France the world record is still to be confirmed due to paperwork issues…although it appears that it’s only a matter of time before Guinness World Records confirm the new record and the pilots & crew can celebrate even more than they have been already!
To help with the celebrations Colin took two cases of Melton Red from the brewery and we imagine this was went down a storm with everybody…although maybe not the French who obviously prefer a lager to a premium best bitter.
Colin is currently making his way back to Melton so when he’s back we’ll post plenty of photos and find out exactly what it was like to fly across the English Channel in a hot air balloon…and hopefully he’ll be a world record breaker!
Cheers
